2011 Summit Block Pinot Noir
Vineyard Notes
Most elevated block of Pinot located on a colder, windier, north facing slope. Late ripening which retains acidity, normally more intense due to slow ripening.Low crop naturally due to wind exposure.Clone 667: dark berries, more colour, touch of tannin. Heavier clays = slower to develop.Production Notes
All of our Pinot Noir wines are essentially made in the same fashion - hand picking, sorting, destemming and fermented in stainless steel vats with all the tools to make the best wines possible. In the summer of 2012, a selection of 12 barrels were put aside - 4 each from what we felt were the 'best expressions' of these particular blocks within our Pinot Noir blocks. A decision was made to keep these wines in neutral oak until the late winter of 2013. The wines were racked, blended and then bottled -- all with the intent to capture the true nature of these 'micro block' wines.Winemaker Notes
Aged in Marcel Cadet barrels, new, medium toast; favoured for their minimal impact on flavour & aromatics. Their tight grain also works well with the big tannins of these wines – the tight grain allows for slow tannin integration between the oak & wine creating subtlety vs. big unbalanced tannins.Wine Profile
